Declarative Language & Screen Time

We're back! In this clip, I model using declarative language to manage screen time. And as Freddie keeps things real - and fun of course! - I use declarative language to navigate a small disagreement, strengthen episodic memory, and practice time awareness.

Updated June 2022

I’m adding in here two screen related posts with my other son, so they are all together. Enjoy!

Part 1: In the video below, Desmond pitches an idea! I use declarative language to help him become aware of my perspective as well as his own, and when Freddie interrupts us, I use declarative language to help him notice what he's doing so he can adjust his communication.

Part 2: Watch below as we follow through with Desmond's idea on ending screen time for the day. This video shows how things play out in real life!

As I’ve said before, nothing is easy or a quick fix. But there are always unique learning opportunities when we are thoughtful, and we can teach kids to be flexible by modeling this behavior ourselves.

…And as always, there are opportunities where I can help my kids practice self-control, and thinking about others…!

𝐁𝐨𝐧𝐮𝐬: Freddie was my video editor! I appreciated how he learned to add sound effects and overlay videos in this clip, so enjoy those too! ❤️

Have a great week!
